We are thrilled to have been awarded a grant by the Dulverton Trust to set up and run a new weekly ‘Bumps & Beyond’ community support group for new mums and pregnant women who are facing social adversity and isolation.
Working in partnership with Emma Aran from ‘Solace Peer Support’ the group is for new mums with children up the age of 2yrs; the focus of support is promoting self-esteem, reducing isolation and promoting access to other support at the Children’s Centre and wider community. For some women their journey through pregnancy, birth and the initial postnatal period, is shaped by high levels of social adversity, trauma and isolation. Giving your child the best start to life, can be very difficult when facing the stress of homelessness/poor housing, extreme poverty and a range of other social challenges. We also run practical activities such as cooking on a low budget, debt management, advice and wellbeing.
The group will be open to women referred by their Health Visitor, Midwife, GP or other healthcare professional.
