Become A Volunteer

At Home-Start Wessex, we rely on specially trained volunteers to support our essential work in the community. Whether you’re interested in becoming a Home-Visiting Volunteer, supporting with events, fundraising, site maintenance, etc. we would love to hear from you. Please use the dropdowns below to see what kind of areas you may be able to help us in and then get in touch via the Expression of Interest form.

Training will be given for all roles and reasonable expenses provided.

Home-Visiting Support

By volunteering for Home-Start Wessex as a Home-Visiting Volunteer, sharing your knowledge and experience, you can transform the lives of young children and their parents in your community.

In return for your time we will provide all the training, guidance and support you need to be effective and make a real difference, whilst also providing you with the opportunity to meet new friends, enhance your wellbeing and develop transferable skills to take into the workplace.

We hope that by coming together, we can keep families connected and supported during their most difficult times.

Alternatively, enquire about our Telephone Befriender course (available to both new and existing volunteers.)

Supporting at Family Groups

We run a number of groups, both drop-in and referral-only, in the local area to support families through play, helping them build a support network of other parents who they can confide in and share their journey with.

Specially trained volunteers are always needed and appreciated in support of these groups. Find out more about the groups Home-Start Wessex has here.

Fundraising and Events

You will find Home-Start Wessex in attendance at a number of local events to share the incredible work we do with others, fundraising or recruiting other potential specially trained volunteers. A lot of hard work goes into these events, so we would always be grateful for support. They are a fun way to make new connections while doing something different.

Trustee Positions

As a charity, our board of trustees play a vital role in the running of the charity by ensuring it is operating in the best interests of those it supports.

Currently, we have a number of trustee positions available.

Shop Volunteer Positions

With our exciting new charity retail outlet and online shop venture, support would be greatly appreciated with the set-up, day-to-day shop duties, etc.

Other Volunteering

Every individual has their own set of skills and expertise that may be useful in terms of supporting us and our work, whether that be maintenance, marketing, retail or something else. We’d love to hear what you’d like to help us with!

I absolutely love working for Home-Start – I really enjoyed the training and working with families, knowing my help has made such a difference is a great honour.
