Supporting a Mum of five with additional needs
We supported a Mum of five children who was managing the day-to-day demands of family life largely on her own. Some of the children had additional needs, requiring extra care, support and supervision.
Providing the level of care and support her family needed had taken a toll on Mum’s mental and physical wellbeing.
She often felt overwhelmed, isolated and unsure where to turn for support, wishing help had been available sooner.
We worked alongside the family to strengthen support around the children. Mum and Dad no longer live together but maintain a positive ‘co-parenting’ relationship. Following our support Dad has increased his involvement with the children, contributing to greater stability.
With support from Home-Start Wessex, Mum was able to safely leave a new relationship involving domestic abuse and access the support she needed to move forward, including a Clare’s Law disclosure.
The impact of this support was felt throughout the family. Isolation reduced, wellbeing improved, daily routines became more manageable, and Mum felt more able to access activities and opportunities for the children.
The family also accessed additional support for the children’s developmental and educational needs, helping them to reach their potential and thrive.
“My mental and physical health has been addressed, and I feel much more confident in myself. The support from Home-Start Wessex has helped me to get help from so many places and give my children better care, which I couldn’t have done without you.”
