Families First for Children Pathfinder Project

We are thrilled to announce our partnership with Dorset Council as part of the Families First for Children Pathfinder programme. Through this collaboration, we are delivering Home-Start services to support local families, ensuring children have the best possible start in life.

Since September 2024, we have been working closely with the Dorset Council team to provide a range of preventative, community-led support services. Our focus is on expectant and new parents struggling with mental health and wellbeing, offering them the early intervention they need.

The need for early years support, particularly during the crucial first 1,001 days—from pregnancy to a child’s second birthday—has never been greater. The Home-Start approach plays a vital role in creating compassionate communities where families can access the support, they need at the earliest stages.

To date, we have supported 30 families, offering tailored support designed to meet their individual needs. Our dedicated team of expert family support staff, along with specially trained volunteers, provide non-judgmental, personal, and outcome-driven interventions that aim to improve mental health, boost parents’ confidence, and encourage them to engage with local family hubs and other community services.

Peer support is being offered through one-on-one sessions in family homes or at Home-Start family groups. As part of the programme’s expansion, we have launched two new weekly family support groups in Weymouth and Wimborne. In the coming months, we plan to open an additional three groups, based in the Family Hub settings in Bridport, Dorchester, and Swanage.

We are excited to continue our work with Dorset Council, ensuring that families across the region have access to the support they need to thrive. Because childhood can’t wait.
